SUBMITTED PHOTO - Julia Ann (Foster) ChapinJulia Ann (Foster) Chapin went to be with the Lord due to complications from cancer on December 8, 2020. She was born in Denver, CO Dec. 4, 1933 to Charles T. Foster and Nina (Morrison) Foster. Julia spent her childhood and teenage years moving frequently. She lived in Colorado, Idaho, Portland OR, Salem OR, and Canby OR. She graduated from Salem High School in 1952 and went on to attend Business School in Salem. She obtained a job working in the Los Angeles County medical library.

Julia returned to Oregon and helped manage the Cottage Hotel in Canby, OR where she met Gene Chapin. They were married on December 14, 1957. Gene and Julie have 2 daughters, Deborah Climer (Curtis) and Anna Lamb (James).

Her bookkeeping skills were put to use at the nursing homes owned by her family, in the office of her son-in- law, and as the treasurer of the Canby United Methodist Women. She was also a longtime ticket taker at the white gate of the Clackamas County fairgrounds.

Julia attended United Methodist churches since she was a little girl, through her teen years, and spent 64 years serving faithfully at Canby United Methodist Church. She taught Sunday School, helped with VBS, volunteer chaplain, and helped with multiple events, including the Church pie booth at the Clackamas County fair, Thanksgiving dinner, retired minister's dinner, Fall bazaar, and the Christmas tea.

She had a deep love for all people especially children and the disenfranchised. Every baby she heard about received a hooded towel with their name embroidered on the hood. She also helped make quilts for different children's organizations and knitted sweaters for "The Knit for Kids" program.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brother and sister-in-law Richard and Barbara Foster; and granddaughter, Hannah Lamb. Julie is survived by her brother, Bill Foster (Elsa); two daughters and their spouses; granddaughter Ariel Climer, grandson Benadam Climer (Selene); 2 great-grandson's Jonas and Berrigan; and numerous extended family members.

If you would like to honor Julia with a gift, you can give to Canby United Methodist Church or "The Children's Center" in Oregon City, OR. A drive by service will be held at Canby United Methodist Church on January 30, 2020 from 10-12:00.
