SUBMITTED PHOTO - Harry Lee KwaiThe adventurous life of Harry Lee Kwai of Canby, OR (recently moved to Woodburn, OR) ended May 15th, 2021. While swimming with a pod of dolphins in Kailua Kona, HI and visiting his sister and brother, Lee Kwai had a heart attack and drowned. He was able to join his late wife and love of his life, Kim Lee Kwai, as well as his brother Ronald Lee Kwai, and his parents.

Born August 29, 1947 in the Palama Settlement of Honolulu, HI, Lee Kwai showed an early interest in learning about other parts of the world through his mentor Lorin Gill, a social worker who would take children on hikes and teach them about conservation. Heavily influenced by Gill in his teenage years and throughout his life, Lee Kwai attended Boise State University earning a Secondary Education degree and later attended the University of Oregon where he earned his Master's degree in Community Education.

Harry Lee Kwai's active life consisted of traveling quite extensively, fishing local rivers and throughout the United States, hiking domestically as well as internationally, and bike riding long distances. Above all Lee Kwai enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was very much a people person. He enjoyed meeting new people of all walks of life, listening to their story, and helping them if he was able. Lee Kwai's travels and Christian fellowship took him several times to Guinea, Africa with a few members of Canby Alliance Church. Lee Kwai has made hundreds of friends over the years both near and far. Many of those friendships became deeply rooted.

Lee Kwai leaves behind his special friend, Patti Trask, four grown children, seven grandchildren, two sisters and a brother. Jodie Kelley of Milwaukie, OR (husband L.J. and children Corinne and Noah), Max Lee Kwai of Portland, OR (wife Jennifer and daughter Sunny), Joshua Lee Kwai of Los Angeles, CA, (life partner Ethel Antonio), Jessica Lee Kwai of Langley, BC Canada (husband Dean Wandler, daughters Halle and Lucca and sons Sebastian and Arie), sisters Kailianu Michaels of Kentucky (husband Allen), Sylvia Penaroza of Kaneohe, HI, and brother Mervin Lee Kwai of Kona, HI (wife Diane Spahr Lee Kwai).

In lieu of flowers or monetary gifts (to a charity), Harry believed in helping people. In his honor, the family requests that you remember him by "paying it forward" to another person. Lee Kwai's memory can best stay alive by giving to others.

The Aloha Celebration of Life honoring Harry will be held August 7th, 2021 at Wait City Park in Canby, OR at 1pm. Please dress comfortably and bring your own blanket or chairs to sit on. The family looks forward to celebrating Harry's life with the community. Thank you.
