Lelyn (Lee) Eugene Flora, a longtime resident of Woodburn, passed away on February 9, 2022 in Salem, Oregon. Lee was born April 19, 1922 in Verndale, Minnesota. He was the third of four children born to Beryl and Della (Orr) Flora. Lee grew up on the family farm and graduated from high school in Motley, Minnesota. Following graduation, he served his country during World War II as a Military Police Officer while stationed in Japan.

In October 1949, Lee married Shirley Sampson in Motley, MN. The adventure began when Lee and Shirley moved west to Oregon in their travel trailer. They landed at Triangle Lake where Shirley was a teacher and Lee worked at the saw mill. From there they moved to Brownsville, and in 1961 settled in Woodburn where Lee and Shirley built the family home and raised their four children. He worked at MacLaren School for Boys until his retirement and built rental homes during the summers with the help of his sons.

Lee always had a dog and trained one special dog, Blaze, to ride behind him on his motorcycle. He also built a stagecoach and trained four goats to pull it, giving rides to the neighborhood children. Creating and building toys for his children and grandchildren was a hobby he enjoyed. Even though Lee was a hard and dedicated worker, he still found time to have fun.

Lelyn and Shirley were a team when it came to raising their children and sharing their Christian faith. Lee taught Sunday School, helped with the youth group, and loved church hymns. He could often be heard whistling those tunes. Lelyn's faith in the Lord was steadfast and strong, believing the Bible to be the Road Map of Life.

Lee remained active by walking, riding his bicycle, and fishing well into his late 80's. He was well known as quite a "kidder", and if there was an opportunity to tell a joke or pull a prank, he was ready for it! He was always up for a good time!

Lelyn was preceded in death by his wife Shirley of 62 years and siblings Loraine, Lyle, and Laird. He is survived by his children Lagea Preuit, Paul (Shauna) Flora; Tim (Lynn) Flora, Shelia (Bill) Markman. He was blessed with 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held March 26th, 2:00 pm at Woodburn Fellowship Church of the Nazarene, 3601 Newberg Hwy, Wooodburn, OR.
