Irwin 'Sonny' Christy Hesedahl
Sonny was born to Ingvald Christian Hesedahl & Opal Harmon in La Jolla, California. He went to Newberg public schools and in 1943 joined the Army at the age of 18 to serve in World War II. When he returned he worked as an accountant at Butler Chevrolet in Newberg. He later became a teacher and taught at Dundee Elementary and Ewing Young Elementary.
He married Delores Wyman in Newberg and they adopted a daughter, Jan, and later had a son, Scott. They divorced and he married Jeanne Hershberger in 1967 to whom he was married to for 48 years until her death in 2015. He adopted her two daughters, Bethany and Carolyn, from Jeanne's first marriage.
Sonny lived a productive and long life. He was always doing something to help and did it with his beautiful smile. He was a kind, quiet, giving man who after retirement worked as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and F.I.S.H. He also was an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church all of his life doing everything from mowing the lawn to acting as treasurer. He will be missed by many.
He leaves behind his son Scott; daughters Jan and Carolyn; grandsons Tory, Chad, Scotty, Wesley and Jason; granddaughters Wendy, Zoe, Ariadne, Esther and Allegra; sister-in-law Maxine; nephews Mike, Gary and niece Kim.
He was preceded in death by brother Harmon Lesley "Bud", daughter Bethany and nephew Chris.
Services for Sonny will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 1 at Zion Lutheran Church in Newberg, 301 S. River Rd.
