Jose (Joe) Vetalecio Alcantara
Joe, son of Temoteo and Fausto Alcantara was born in Bagamanoe, Catanduanes, Philippines on October 1, 1935. Joe is survived by his wife of nearly 48 years, Darlene, their daughter Nicole, and several nieces and nephews. Joe was in the military and also worked as a high school teacher in the Philippines. He came to the United States in the Fall of 1964. He completed several college degrees both in the Philippines and in Oregon in education, psychology and science. He worked at the Sportsman Airpark in Newberg until 1973 and then was a machinist at the Sealy Mattress Company in Portland for over 40 years. Joe was a hard worker and retired at the age of 70. He loved the coast, gardening and enjoyed his dog Star and his cat Snow. He especially loved his family—Darlene and Nicole. Serving the Lord was his number one priority and he was faithful participating at the River Street Church of God. Joe's wonderful smile and quiet ways will be missed by his family and friends. A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 22, at 1pm at the River Street Church, 715 S River Street, Newberg.
