October 12, 1919 to September 10, 2019. Charlotte Helena Mary Garmire passed away at 99

USER SUBMITTED - Charlotte GarmireCharlotte Helena Mary Garmire passed away at 99 on September 10, 2019 - just shy of her 100th birthday.

Charlotte was born at home in Philomath, Ore. on October 12, 1919 to Olga and Charles Park. In 1924, her parents purchased a farm east of Terrebonne, Ore. - very near Crooked River and Smith Rocks. There her family grew to finally include four vivacious daughters. The girls worked hard helping their parents while thoroughly enjoying each other and this wonderful scenic area.

Charlotte graduated from Redmond High School in 1939 and went on to Oregon State College on a Pacific Railroad Scholarship. There she met the love of her life, Francis Marion Garmire, and they married in 1942. They settled in Canby after Marion returned from serving in WWII. In 1956, they purchased their most recent home on Northeast Territorial Road, where they raised three children - Elaine, Gail, and Adrian.

Charlotte had many interesting occupations in her lifetime, but chose to stay home while raising her children. When she returned to employment, she worked as a teacher's aide at Lee Elementary. She retired from the Canby School District in 1987 after 10 years of service.

Charlotte was hardworking, loving, and caring - giving abundantly to her family and community. She led Bluebird, Cub Scout and 4H club as well as supporting many school activities. She was a longstanding member of Canby Christian Church, where her involvement included working with children in Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She especially enjoyed the opportunity to chaperone youth mission trips to Mexico. Charlotte liked to read, solve puzzles, and spend time playing games with family and friends. She enjoyed handwork, crocheting nearly 150 afghans as gifts of love and encouragement. She relished travel, especially enjoying trips to Alaska, Hawaii, and the Holy Land. She was enthusiastic about life and always up for an adventure. In her final years, she was nearly blind and deaf; however, she approached these limitations with graced and humor, channeling her love for others into a ministry of prayer.

Charlotte is survived by her daughter, Elaine, a resident of Canby; her sister, Virginia Petty; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband, F.M. Garmire; daughter, Gail Ann Bagge; son, Adrian Charles Garmire; and her sisters, Alice Cram and Betty Richardson.

Although deeply missed, we rejoice that Charlotte is "Home" with loved ones gone before and in the presence of her Lord, Jesus Christ. A "Celebration of Life" service will be held Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Canby Christian Church, 444 N. Holly, Canby.
