Born to Joseph Hill and Lovica May Hutson in Austin, Texas, she spent her childhood in the land that she loved. Nancy devoted most of her life to serving others, including raising her 11 children who were the pride and joy of her life. Her commitment and selflessness drove her to give all she could to enrich the lives of those around her, using her many and varied skills to work odd jobs, teach Sunday school, and informally adopt every neighborhood kid who was in need of just a little more love, understanding, or forgiveness.

Once her children were grown, Nancy found room to balance her amazing role as a mother and grandmother with exploring new adventures in her own life. She spent several years working as a park ranger at Collins Lake in Browns Valley, California, and later as an Office Secretary at Fisher's Supply in Canby, Oregon.

Nancy was an artist in many forms: sewing, quilting, crafting, sketching and painting. She was an avid outdoorswoman who loved nature, her flowers and garden, road trips, hunting, camping, and sitting on the front porch watching the sun rise as it crept up on her toes. Treasure hunting at antique stores and garage sales was a favorite past time.

Nancy also had a deep love for music, especially bluegrass gospel. Throughout her life she played guitar, banjo, mandolin, and mountain dulcimer, and loved to sing and dance. She also lovingly encouraged her children in their musical journeys.

Her deep faith in God was her source of strength and peace. She was a woman of prayer and loved reading her bible for study, guidance and encouragement. She was always eager to share that with others.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Hill and Lovica Hutson; brothers, Gene Hutson and Charles Hutson; and her beloved son, Charles Anthony Gibson.

Nancy is survived by her brother, Willard Hutson; her children, Charlene Slocum (Kim), Peggy Church (Leroy), Patsy Yoder (Randy), Andy Gibson (Cathy), Charmin Gibson (Lonnie Wainscott), Daisy Brandhorst (Frank), John Gibson (Holly Walder), Matt Gibson (Adam Temple), Melinda Becker (Justin), Zeb Sowers (Tracy Rhodes); 21 grandchildren; 29 greatgrandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Nancy leaves behind a legacy of generosity, compassion, and kindness, along with a massive family and extended network of friends and acquaintances who are richer in spirit for having been introduced to her unique and powerful ability to love unconditionally.

Nancy will be remembered for the unselfish way she loved and served others. In lieu of flowers, our family would ask that you pay it forward in an act of service, in the loving memory of our sweet mother.

A private family viewing was held at Canby Funeral Chapel. A Celebration of Life Service to be announced at a later date.
