CENTRAL OREGONIAN - John McCulloch John Carleton McCulloch, 74, of Bend, died April 30, 2019, in Bend.

Graveside Services will be held at Juniper Haven Cemetery, 1555 N. Main St., in Prineville, on Saturday, May 11 at 10 a.m.

John was born Nov. 9, 1944, in The Dalles to Robert "Bob" and Vera (McRae) McCulloch.

John was a sports enthusiast from a very early age, playing football, basketball and baseball. He played on Mitchell High School's state-bound baseball team at Prineville and Wheeler High School's (Fossil) state tourney basketball team at Bend. He enjoyed rodeo and competed in bull riding while he worked for Howard Johnson in Condon when he was fresh out of high school.

He supported the sports teams at Prineville, Bend, Mitchell, Fossil and Condon, where his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews participated.

John married Mildred Juanita "Nita" Taylor April 28, 1972, in Winnemucca, Nevada. Nita brought three children into the family: Brett, Brenda and Kerri Johnson. They thoroughly enjoyed their grandchildren and their excursions to Reno.

John worked for Steiwer Ranches in Fossil and Kinzua Corporation and Eastern Oregon Logging. John and Nita moved to Prineville when the sawmill at Kinzua closed. John drove log truck for many years before he and Nita moved to Mitchell, where they operated the Blueberry Muffin Café along Highway 26. They moved back to Prineville, where John drove truck again. He was driving for Central Oregon Redi-Mix when he retired. John lived in Prineville more than 40 years.

John enjoyed being outdoors and was an avid golfer, spending many hours on the golf courses around Central Oregon and at Kinzua Hills. He loved to hunt as well. In later years, John watched all sports on TV, especially bull riding.

He is survived by his sister, Cistie Shaffer, of Fossil; step-children, Brett Johnson, of Bandon, Brenda Andersch, of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Kerri Cutsforth, of Myrtle Point; nine grandchildren, Kasey Culley, Kristi Rector, Jamie Stirling, Jessica Andersch, Justin Andersch, Justin Johnson, Cole Cutsforth, Brett Weishan and Richard Weishan; eight great-grandchildren, Elly Jean Stirling, Bella Rose Marie Rector, Caleb Stirling, Zachary Andersch, Owen Johnson, Layla Johnson, Danika Cutsforth and Mason Johnson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nita; father, Bob; mother, Vera; and two brothers, Donnie and Dale.
