Al passed away at St. Charles hospital in Bend, Oregon, on Jan. 21, 2022, at the age of 83.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Thelma; brother, Raymond; and his daughter, Lori J. Deason.

He is lovingly remembered by son, Randy McCollam and wife Jan; his brother, Larry McCollam (Rita); sister, Claudia; son in-law, Rick Deason (Theresa); grandchildren Trisha Shollenburg (Brandon), Greg Deason, Jacob McCollam (Monica), and Elise Hedges (Deason) (Blake); great-grandchildren, Bradley, Leila, Ezra, Olive, Damien, and Henry; many nieces and nephews, as well as close friends of the family.

Al was born in Longview, Washington on April 24, 1938, at the closest hospital to where his family lived in Rainier, Oregon. He graduated from Rainier High School in 1956. He worked in the lumber mill in Rainier, Oregon, and then he worked for the Oregon State Parks and moved to Central Oregon when the Round Butte Dam was created in 1964. He was proud to be part of the creation of the new park and told stories about the orchards that are now under water. He left the parks and then worked for the plywood mill in Redmond and was active in the union. He retired from the lumber industry in 1996. He moved to Prineville with his son, Randy, and family in 1993.

He loved to hunt for treasures for family and friends at yard sales. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, rockhounding, camping with family and friends, and riding his four-wheeler with his faithful pup, Trailer.

Celebration of his life will be held this spring in a place that is filled with lots love and memories.

I am sure that when we all gather together, we will remember that he really isn't gone. He is off on a four-wheeler with Trailer and Gidget behind him.
