Janis was born December 11, 1956 in Redmond, Oregon, to parents Bill and Betty (Waldorf) Amis. Jan graduated from Crook County High School in 1975. She was raised in Prineville, Oregon and Powell Butte, Oregon. Jan was involved in junior rodeos, 4-H, softball and Oregon High School Rodeo.

After high school, Jan worked for a horse ranch in Medford, Oregon and then in San Luis Obispo, California. Working with horses was a passion of Jan's.

Jan was a long-time resident of Redmond, Oregon. She spent her years working, horseback riding, gardening, hunting, loving on her dogs and spending quality time with family and friends.

In 2008, Jan moved to Mississippi, where she pursued raising, breeding, working and showing the Catahoula dog breed. She won numerous events and classes with her beloved Catahoulas. While there, she gained many wonderful friendships in the South.

Jan made friends wherever she went, knew how to have a good laugh and loved deeply. She had an immeasurable love for animals, particularly dogs. She was a loving daughter, sister, niece, aunt and friend. She will be missed by many.

Jan is survived by her mother, Betty Amis; brother, Randy Amis; nephew, Brandan McGarr (Stacey); nieces, Christina Earnest (Jared) and Kaitlynn Thomasson (Jim); grandnephew, Rylend; and four grandnieces, Embrie, Reese, Molly and Ainsley. Jan was preceded in death by her father, William (Bill) Amis; and grandparents, Jim Amis (Edith) and Art Waldorf (Rena).

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m., on Sunday, July 10, at the Crooked River Park (south covered area) in Prineville, Oregon. A barbecue lunch will be provided. Please bring a chair if you would like.
