George McCarthy

August 19, 1940 - November 29, 2018

George McCarthy passed away peacefully, due to congestive heart failure, on Nov. 29, 2018. Highlights of his life include graduation from Lake Oswego High School and University of Oregon; serving in the U.S. Navy, and working as a sales representative for Hollabaugh Plumbing.

George was a humorous man with a gift for storytelling. His stories were accompanied by his amazing and abundant sound effects. He enjoyed entertaining his numerous friends with his tales.

George was an avid, accomplished golfer. He approached, with his friends, the game of golf with zest. He enjoyed the melodrama, camaraderie, cussedness and humor of the game. Forever on, may George's golf ball lie in green pastures and not in still waters.

George loved his many friends. If a man's worth is measured by the quantity and quality of his friends, then George was indeed a wealthy man.

Survivors include his sister, Patricia McCarthy Peterson, and brother, Michael McCarthy. As we adjust to life without George, we are grateful for his presence in our lives. We will treasure memories of his humor, his kindness, his generosity and the support he lent. We all will miss George dearly.

Rather than mourn, George wanted his friends to rejoice his years spent with them. A celebration of George's life will be held at noon, Saturday, Jan. 19, at Oswego Lake Country Club, 20 Iron Mountain Blvd., Lake Oswego.

In lieu of flowers please feel free to make a donation to your favorite charity.
