Ada Lou Jean (Bonkrude) Klein
Long time Lake Oswego resident Jean Klein passed from this earth on Feb. 12, 2019. She was born on September 12, 1925 in Barron, Wisconsin. Jean was the youngest of three sisters and grew up in a strong Norwegian, Lutheran family on their century dairy farm. She attended a one-room school as a child. After high school, she moved to Chicago to help with the war effort, working for the US Treasury. While at a dance at Navy Pier she met dental student, Paul Klein. They married in 1948 and began a lifetime of love together. After living in Faribault, Minnesota for several years, they moved back to Chicago, where Paul received his orthodontic degree at Northwestern University Dental School. In 1954 the Kleins moved to Oregon and settled in Lake Oswego, where Paul was the town's first orthodontist. Jean dedicated her time to her children and her community, volunteering countless hours at Our Savior's Lutheran Church and The Lakewood Center for the Arts. She loved to snow ski, golf, hike, play the piano, travel, attend Bible studies, knit and read. She had a sweet disposition with a true servant heart and always put others before herself. Jean suffered with dementia for many years, but continued to love flowers, babies and music. She is remembered as a true lady and a gracious hostess, who calmly uplifted those around her. Jean is survived by three children: Paul Klein (Becky) of Bellingham, WA; Nancy Tongue (Dr. John Tongue) of Lake Oswego; and Dr. Douglas Klein (Debbie) of Lake Oswego; and eight grandchildren: Christopher Tongue (Christina), Laura (Dr. Evan Los), Amy, Lisa (Jack McQuiston), Holly, Heidi, Mike, Katie, and five great-grandchildren. Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Paul E. Klein, and grandson John Klein.
