Marian Grant

Our beautiful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Marian Batchelor Grant, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2019. She was 94

years old. Marian, also known as "Pinky," was born in Monaca, Penn., to Senator Alonso Socrates Batchelor III and Jesse Holmes Batchelor, and spent her childhood years there. She moved to San Francisco Calif., at age 19, and graduated from UC Berkeley in 1947. She was a member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. After no less than 12 marriage proposals, Marian proposed to her husband John Edward "Jack" Grant on the steps of UC Berkeley's library. Jack and Marian lived in Walnut Creek, Calif., before relocating to West Linn, Ore., then to Lake Oswego. Together they enjoyed one day shy of 57 years of marriage. Jack preceded Marian in death in 2004. Marian is survived by five children: Gregory John (Sandy), Gail Susan (Photon), Jeffrey Holmes (Jani), Carol Amanda, and Melissa Gene (Lincoln); seven grandchildren: Leah, Eric, Natalie, Austin, Jack, Dawn and Aaron; three great-grandchildren; and Amy RedmondNorwood of Baltimore, her niece. A Celebration of Marian's Life was held on May 11 in West Linn. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Oregon Humane Society, or to a favorite charity.
