Arlene Clanton

June 3, 1945 to August 28, 2018

Arlene was born June 3, 1945 in Media, Penn. Eager for sunshine, Arlene took her first teaching job in Orange County, Calif. in 1967, and one year later, after a chance encounter on the beach, married the love of her life Steve Clanton. After moving to the Lake Oswego/ West Linn area, they had their son Adam. In 1978, after ten years of marriage, Steve passed away, and Arlene became a teacher in both the West Linn and Lake Oswego school districts, ultimately becoming a full time teacher at Hallinan Elementary School for over a decade. Arlene was always a social butterfly who loved to travel. She was an active member in the Sherlock Holmes Society, the Red Hat Society, the Palm Springs Women's Club and the Palm Springs Historical Society, to name a few. She visited over 40 countries, setting foot on all continents but Antarctica. Arlene was also a lifelong antique hunter obsessed with the Victorian era, and in retirement moved into a colorful Victorian home in Portland where she could display her collections. Arlene passed away August 29, 2018 from cancer having lived a life full of adventure. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law; two granddaughters; a brother, a niece and countless friends she considered family. Please join her family and friends in a celebration of life from 1 to 3:30 p.m. June 3, 2019 at the McLean House, 5350 River Street, West Linn with memory sharing at 2:30 p.m.
