Known to her friends as Jean, she was kind and sweet, but could surprise people with her moxie and feisty attitude.

Jean was born to Alfred and Emily Dessurne in London, England on July 1, 1939. A few years after graduating from school, Jean decided to leave everything behind to become a nanny in the United States. She initially worked for a family in Connecticut for a couple of years before moving to California to enjoy the warmer climate.

Jean met her future husband, Mark Kudlicka, at a party in Hollywood. They eventually started dating and were married on July 16, 1966. Their first son, Jay Walter Kudlicka, was born on October 14, 1968. The second son, Kurt Dessurne Kudlicka, was born on December 13, 1969.

Mark and Jean originally lived in Mission Viejo, California, but Mark moved on his own to Oregon and eventually purchased a house in Lake Oswego. Jean and the boys soon joined him and it proved to be the perfect neighborhood to raise their children. In the early 1990s, they moved to Tualatin and later to Charbonneau.

Jean's greatest joys in life were watching her sons grow up and participate in sports, which is where she developed most of her closest friendships. She was also an avid gardener, cook and baker. In her spare time, she volunteered at Meridian Park Hospital and liked to knit baby blankets and hats for not only friends, but orphans in Africa. Jean also played a mean game of Mexican train dominos. Playing dominos is where the boys realized where their "competitive fire" came from - mom.

In retirement, Jean enjoyed going on cruises with Mark all over the world, including a number of trips to the Caribbean, Mexico, Europe and Alaska. After Mark passed away in 2014, Jean moved into a nearby retirement home. Always willing to speak her mind, Jean quickly made a bunch of new friends and established herself as an advocate for anyone who needed help, but was afraid to say anything.

Although the last several years were tough because of health issues, Jean often shared how happy she was with her life - all her family and friends and too many wonderful memories to count.

Survivors include sons, Jay Kudlicka of Portland, and Kurt Kudlicka of Hillsboro; sister, Carol Sabarese (Michael) of Truckee, California; niece, Vanessa Sabarese of San Francisco, California; and nephew Sean Sabarese (Shawn) of Orinda, California.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Mark and parents, Alfred and Emily.

A Celebration of Life for family and friends will be held in the spring.
