James V. Shiveley
James V. Shiveley had great faith in Jesus. On February 9, 2021 he went to his eternal home.
Jim was born in Omaha, Nebraska and had a wonderful life growing up in Falls City with a loving extended family. Always hard working, he had a large paper route, set up bowling pins and cut and wrapped meat for a butcher shop. Summers and holidays were very special on his uncle and aunt's farm with his cousins.
Jim joined the US Navy after high school seeking adventures all over the world and served 8 years. He was a storekeeper on the Salisbury Sound AV-13, a support ship for sea planes, and later high security spying on Russian submarines in Puerto Rico.
He majored in business at Denver University. He married Carolyn, the love of his life, 53 1/2 years ago in the Denver University Evans Chapel. Jim advanced to Target store manager. Retail moves took them to Tulsa, Oklahoma where their daughter Jill Suzanne was born, then to Denver, Colorado where their son Matthew James was born. The family moved to West Linn in 1988 to open more Target Stores. He retired after 31 years.
Jim and Carol loved times with their children and later daughter-in-law Sherrod. Their grandsons Chauncey James, Thomas Matthew and John James brought such joy and pride. The family has always enjoyed their many pets. Jim enjoyed golfing with Jack and John, his friends at Sandelie for many years. His advice to all of us: Don't smoke.
Work hard at something you love and it won't be work.
Jim is survived by his wife Carol; daughter Jill, son Matthew (Sherrod); and grandsons Chauncey (Liana), Thomas & John. His brother Mike (Vicky); and preceded in death by his brother John.
Internment in June at Willamette National Cemetery to follow. Donations to Oregon Humane Society and animal rescues in his memory.
