Clifford D. Mansley, Sr.
Clifford D. Mansley, Sr. was born April 26, 1927 to Walter E. and Elsie K. Mansley, in Philadelphia, PA. Cliff passionately loved his wife of 66 years, Jean Hollingsworth, who preceded him in resurrection on March 31, 2019. Cliff was a devout follower of Christ and an active member of Lake Grove Presbyterian Church. His life convictions were founded in the Bible and clearly evidenced both in his love for family and friends.
At the age of 17, Cliff enlisted in the Navy and served on the USS Leyte Gulf, as well as the USS Randolph. A bit of a Renaissance man, he studied at The Zanerian College of Penmanship and mastered the art of Engrossing (i.e. calligraphy). Cliff's enthusiasm for opera was fueled by formal voice training. In 1951, Cliff graduated from Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania where he was elected to Beta Gamma Sigma, National Honor Society and the Alpha Phi Omega, National Service Fraternity.
For more than 80 years, Cliff participated, volunteered or served professionally with the Boy Scouts of America on a local and national basis. Strongly identifying with the high ideals of historic Scouting, it was his aim to encourage young men and boys to develop strong character. After completing his career with the Cascade Pacific Council he organized the Protestant Committee on Scouting promoting the principles of "Duty to God" and a "Scout is Reverent." For his efforts Cliff was awarded the Council's highest honor, the Silver Beaver.
Cliff and his wife, Jean, founded Heirloom Artists, specializing in exquisite hand-lettered calligraphy for more than 60 years. He served as past President of the Portland Society of Calligraphers.
Cliff is survived by his children, Holly Monroe, Meredith (Chris) Tento, Rev. Clifford D. (Janie) Mansley; and grandchildren Joshua (Emily) Monroe, Heidi (Philip) Lofton, Melissa (Cameron) Colby, Christopher Tento, Abby Mansley and Samuel Mansley and Great-grandchildren James, Virginia, Clark, Coraline.
A celebration of Cliff's life was held June 8, 2020 at 4 p.m. at Lake Grove Presbyterian Church 4040 Sunset Drive in Lake Oswego, Oregon.
