Mabel Frances Jane Bennett was born June 3, 1915, in Cando, ND. Mabel was the eldest of eight children born to Maggie (Watson) Bennett. She was raised in Sanish, ND, and graduated from Sanish High School in 1933. Her father, Norman passed when Mabel was very young. Her mother then married Benjamin Berntson in Sanish, ND, when Mabel was two years old. Mabel got her first job working at the Arvid Olson Grocery Store.

Mabel married Clayton Sanderson in 1934. They made their home in Cut Bank, MT and from there they moved to Sacramento, CA. Sadly, Clayton passed away in 1944. Mabel then moved to Oregon City, OR, where she had good friends, Myrle and Harry Osborn, from North Dakota living there. They introduced her to her future husband, Bob McBain. Mabel and Bob were married on December 12, 1946 in Vancouver, WA. Mabel and Bob were married for 37 years before Bob's passing on March 22, 1984. Mabel moved to Minot in 2004 to be closer to family.

While living in Oregon City she started working at the Oregon City Laundry, where she retired after 32 years. She volunteered at senior centers in Oregon City, Gladstone and West Linn, where she helped serve food. She also helped with The Red Cross and was a part of the VFW Auxiliary and Clackamas Hearts and Hands, and AARP.

Mabel is survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and their children and grandchildren.

Mabel was preceded in death by her parents; husbands: Clayton Sanderson and Robert McBain; brothers: Wallace (Ida) Berntson, Glen (Margaret) Berntson, and Elwood (Gladys) Berntson; and sisters: Dolores (Phillip) Johnson, Amanda (Wilbur) Reed, Harriet (Red) Halverson, and Ella Mae (Bert) Michalenko.

A funeral was held November 20, 2017 at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home Chapel in Minot.
