Lake Oswego Softball recruiting umpires for 2020 summer season
If you like softball, working outside and making money, Lake Oswego Softball has a deal for you.
Lake Oswego Softball, the organizing body for men's, coed and senior men's slow-pitch softball in LO, is recruiting umpires for the 2020 summer season.
Umpires must be at least 18 years old, get to choose which days they work (games are held in the evenings Monday through Friday at sites around Lake Oswego) and will be trained by Lake Oswego Softball, with new umps paired with experienced veterans early in the season.
Umpires usually work both games of a doubleheader, a 2 1/2-hour time commitment, and get paid $28 per game. Umpirers who return for a second season in 2021 will see their pay rise to $30 per game.
New umpires, after registration, will be trained in three sessions, first in a classroom, and later, on the field. Slow pitch training will be held at 7 p.m. on three consecutive Mondays — Feb. 24, March 2 and March 9 — at the Clackamas Community Club, 15711 S.E. 90th Ave. A field day will be added later.
The 2020 summer season opens in early June and continues until mid-August.
As for scheduling, umpires get to determine which days they want to work. Each umpire has a calendar page and they enter the days they're available; after that, the league will set each week's schedule.
Clackamas County is also soliciting new umpires for girls fastpitch softball. Open to adults and children 14 and older, fastpitch umpires are paid $35 dollars per game, but must provide their own transportation to game sites.
