Nonprofit benefit for youth wrestlers planned at Stone Creek Golf Club in Oregon City

WoodsThe fourth-annual Tyrone S. Woods Memorial Golf Classic that benefits youth wrestlers and wrestling programs across the country is set for Saturday, June 19, at Stone Creek Golf Club in Oregon City.

Tyrone S. Woods Wrestling Foundation's primary annual fundraising event serves the nonprofit, all-volunteer organization whose mission is to maintain Woods' legacy as a state champion wrestler and a hero of Benghazi and to provide financial and charitable assistance to the sport of youth wrestling.

Woods Memorial Park in Oregon City.In 2019 there were 31 participating teams with proceeds amounting to $15,000. With sponsorships from as far away as Massachusetts and Pennsylvania, the Oregon City business community actively sponsored hole signs and contests and donated prizes.

On May 15, a new 9.2-acre Oregon City park, the Tyrone S. Woods Memorial Park, was officially dedicated with a program that honored Woods for his 20 years of service as a U.S. Navy SEAL and as a CIA protective officer, who perished in Benghazi, Libya, on Sept. 12, 2012.

This year's tournament registration fee is $125 for individuals and $500 for a team of four. Check-in begins at noon for the four-player scramble at followed by a shotgun start at 1:30 p.m. Boxed lunches plus beverages and snacks will be available, along with various contest and raffle prizes.
