National Heritage Area boosters seek nominees from Estacada, Oregon City, West Linn, Lake Oswego, Canby, Aurora

The Willamette Falls & Landings Heritage Area Coalition (WFL) invites local businesses in operation for over 50 years to be honored during the Half Century Business Awards and Celebration.

WFL is a partnership of public, private and nonprofit organizations leading efforts to promote a National Heritage Area, pointing to the 56-river-mile area's rich heritage, natural beauty, agriculture and recreational opportunities.

WFL Executive Director Siobhan Taylor said the present boundaries set by National Park Service requirements for a feasibility study include Estacada, Oregon City, West Linn, Lake Oswego, Canby, Aurora and communities along the Willamette River, all the way to Mission Bottom.

"I look forward to the day when we are established as a National Heritage Area and can interpret our own heritage stories, telling more stories and expanding to include more areas like Gladstone, which has an amazing heritage story and landings, too," Taylor said.

The deadline to nominate a business for the award is Feb. 1. The award ceremony will be 6 p.m. Feb. 20 in the Cutsforth's Market Town Hall in Canby.

"Half Century Award winners will receive a plaque from the Willamette Falls & Landings Heritage Area Coalition during the event," Taylor said. "This is the second time the awards have been held, and the first time the awards have been held in the expanded proposed National Heritage Area."
