Milwaukie police: Woman runs stop sign, hits school bus
Milwaukie police cited a woman for running a stop sign after she collided with a school bus carrying five preschoolers on Tuesday. No injuries were reported.
At approximately 12:52 p.m. on Jan. 28, police responded to the intersection of Southeast Harrison Street and 37th Avenue and interviewed 81-year-old Marvel E. Beck, the driver of the 2016 Kia Sol involved in the crash. Police determined that Beck was travelling north on 37th and failed to stop at the stop sign before entering the intersection.
Police found that Beck's vehicle had collided with the front passenger side fender of the school bus, causing her Kia to spin before coming to a stop on the southeast curb of Harrison Street. Police issued a citation to Beck for failing to obey a traffic control device.
School bus driver 63-year-old Janet L. Lemke and the five preschoolers on board were determined to have been properly restrained in their seats at the time of the crash. During the investigation police learned the school bus was travelling east on Harrison Street as it entered the 37th Avenue intersection.
