Love — and the smell of cookies — are in the air.
Members of the Girl Scouts of Oregon and Southwest Washington will launch more than 30,000 cookie booths across the Northwest this week, bringing with them new flavors.
Cookies go on sale starting Friday, Feb. 14. Sales end March 8.
Alongside longtime favorites like Thin Mints, Samoas and Tagalongs, this year's sales will feature a new cookie known as Lemon-Ups, a crispy lemon cookie baked with messages inspired by Girl Scout entrepreneurs, such as "I am a go-getter" and "I am an innovator."
In addition, S'mores and gluten free Toffee-tastic cookies are available at select cookie booths while supplies last.
Cookie sales have been a successful fundraising tool for the Girl Scouts for more than a century. The nonprofit organization for girls teaches empowerment, entrepreneurship and community service.
Girl Scouts spokeswoman Sarah Shipe said the program teaches girls about leadership, how to manage finances and gain confidence in handling money
"The Girl Scout Cookie Program is so much more than meets the eye," Shipe said. "It teaches valuable life skills and helps girls build that entrepreneurial mindset. As they run their cookie booth—essentially their own cookie business—girls are building confidence, curiosity and an eye for innovation. These skills lead to academic success and workforce readiness in all kinds of careers—especially those where women are underrepresented."
