Richard Rankin Fellers, 61, of Oregon City charged with four counts of alleged sexual abuse

Detectives from the Tualatin Police Department arrested a horse trainer, following an indictment charging him with four counts of second-degree sexual abuse involving a victim who was 17 years old at the time of the abuse.

Richard Rankin Fellers, 61, an unincorporated Oregon City resident, was taken into custody Monday morning. Fellers is a prominently known horse competitor and trainer.

His arrest was based on an investigation that lasted several months and involved witnesses in other states, according to a Tualatin police news release. Police allege that Fellers had a sexual relationship with the female victim inside the victim's Portland apartment.

Police said information about the abuse originally came from the U.S. Center for SafeSport, a nonprofit organization that works to end all types of abuses in sports.

Fellers, who formerly lived in Sherwood, competed in the 2012 U.S. Summer Olympics in London.

He and his horse, Flexible, participated in equestrian show jumping at the Olympics, placing eighth after narrowly making the second round of finals competition.

Fellers was lodged at the Washington County Jail.
