A portion of proceeds from participating businesses will go to support Milwaukie parks if you shop and dine downtown during six nights before watching the Christmas Ships Parade from Milwaukie Bay Park.
Christmas Ships will pass by Milwaukie at around 8 p.m. Dec. 7, 10, 15, 17, 18 and 20.
Participating businesses are offering furniture, home decor, vintage items, arts, crafts, comics and food.
The Christmas Ships Parade has been a tradition for 67 years on the Willamette and Columbia rivers. The parade has motored by on the Columbia, from Camas and Washougal, Washington, to St. Helens, and on the Willamette, from St. Johns to Milwaukie. Organizers knew they had to continue in 2020 and try to make memories and bring cheer to a challenging year. More than 70 boats took part in the Christmas Ships Parade last year.
Also, the Christmas Ships Parade recently was designated as an Oregon Heritage Tradition by the Oregon Heritage Commission. It joins such events as the Oregon State Fair, Pear Blossom Festival in Medford, Pendleton Round-Up and Woodburn Fiesta Mexicana.
