I am concerned that our Oregon Republican staGail Cordellte legislators are unable to keep up with the rapid pace of the 2020 legislative session. Especially tiring seems to be bills that concern taking action on climate change.

Explaining why all but one Republican didn't show up for a recent evening session, Republican caucus leader Christine Drazan (House District 39's representative) told media that the no show was "really about pacing of the session and pacing of floor movement and allowing our members to have a little bit more time in between...The schedule is a little bit grueling for the level of issues that are coming before us in committees right now" and further, "beyond a few budgetary tweaks, there is no legislation that must pass during this 35-day session."

These legislators have not offered any meaningful alternative response to the emergency that is climate change. To further thwart getting anything done this session, Republicans are also insisting all bills be read aloud before final voting, further impeding progress. These bills should already have been read carefully before consideration by the legislature.

With a 35-day work session this year, I suggest if any legislator is unwilling or unable to fully engage this session they are in the wrong line of work. If compensation of $24,000 plus $144/diem is not deemed sufficient, citizens should step in and replace them with those who are willing to work on these hard issues.

This is an election year, and all state representatives and some senators are up for reelection. Look up who represents you at Find out their voting record at Do not hesitate to give your elected representatives feedback, positive and/or negative. And vote.
