Freeze! 5 tips to winterize your home
BURR! With winter on the horizon, not only do you need to adjust to the changing weather, your home does too. If you don't prepare your home for the colder temperatures, what was a small fix can quickly turn into a big project. With that in mind, here are 5 tips to help winterize your home:
1.) Caulk your windows and doors—Seal any gaps here to stop air leaks and keep your home's heat from escaping.
2.) Repair any leaky pipes—A few repair couplings can help stop a leak, greatly reducing the chance your pipes will freeze over.
3.) Insulate your outside walls and vents--Often an easy DIY project, this is another fine way to reduce heat loss.
4.) Wrap your pipes with insulation or heat tape—Speaking of insulation, there are certain areas in your home, such as your garage, that are generally not insulated. Pipe insulation or heat tape will help regulate the temperature of your pipes, reducing your heating costs. Hose bib covers are another great way to protect and insulate your outdoor fixtures.
5.) Replace your old water heater—Even if your older water heater is in good shape, the energy savings along could pay for your new water heater after just a few years! At George Morlan, we sell more water heaters than anyone else in the Northwest. So when you need a new water heater, call us first!
