East Metro Association of Realtors supports local communitiesThe East Metro Association of Realtors is a trade association based in Gresham with over 1,100 members.

EMAR's mission is to provide services and education for its members and build the communities of the East Metro area. EMAR supports local and national organizations that help and bolster the wellbeing of its neighborhoods. Read on to learn about a few of the groups supported by EMAR members.

Established in 1985, Zarephath Kitchen has provided food to low-income families and the homeless in Gresham.

"EMAR members volunteer with Zarephath and help with food drives for the organization," said Joel Bramwell, EMAR's current president and broker, and owner of Bram-well Properties in Gresham.

Another operation in Gresham assisted by EMAR is Snowcap Charities, which distributes pre-packed food boxes and offers an appointment-only clothing closet where EMAR members help contribute to occasional food drives.

EMAR members are involved in fundraising for My Father's House, whose mission is to equip homeless families with necessary life skills. The nonprofit provides shelter for up to 28 homeless families in individual, self-contained units that include kitchenettes and private baths. The ministry also distributes donated food and clothing through an on-site donation center and free family store.

"Since 9/11, Homes for Our Troops has built mortgage-free, fully adaptable homes for soldiers injured while deployed. EMAR held a gala which raised over $18,000 for a home in the Salem area," Bramwell said.

EMAR's golf scramble is its largest event of the year. The Scramble "Fore' Scholarships Golf Tournament takes place this year on Monday, September 13 at the Persimmon Country Club in Gresham.

"The EMAR Scholarship Foundation is supported by our annual golf tournament. In partnership with local schools, we provide college scholarships for deserving students," Bramwell said.

Habitat for Humanity is another nonprofit supported by EMAR members that helps the East Metro community by building and improving homes. Families build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage.

On the national level, EMAR works with the American Red Cross, most recently through a successful blood drive sponsored by both EMAR and Powell Valley Living at Clear Creek Community Church.

"Our next blood drive will be in November on Veteran's Day, also at Clear Creek Community Church," Bramwell said.

EMAR is committed to building the communities where its members live. To learn more about the programs and services EMAR provides, visit and follow them on Facebook and Twitter.
