Both dancers and fans are eager for the return of stage performances this winter.

Oregon Ballet Theatre dancers in the 2017 production of George Balanchine's The Nutcracker.Oregon Ballet Theatre (OBT) rejoices in their triumphant return to the stage with a season of live performances.

While OBT pivoted successfully to digital programming last season through its broadcast channel, nothing can replace the thrill of live performance. OBT, its dancers, and students alike are delighted to share that Portland's holiday tradition of George Balanchine's The Nutcracker will return to the Keller auditorium for a full run, including 10 performances with the OBT Orchestra.

Since 1989, OBT has thrilled Portland audiences with its annual performances of The Nutcracker.

"Over the years, The Nutcracker has woven its way into the fabric of our family traditions," says OBT Interim Artistic Director Peter Franc. "As a father of two little girls, more than ever, I feel the power and value of these shared experiences."

As Portland audiences will delight in the return of this beloved ballet, OBT dancers are also eager to return to the stage. With its many performances and roles, The Nutcracker is a unique training ground for dancers to challenge themselves by revisiting roles and trying new ones year upon year. This season is particularly exciting, with 11 new company members making their debuts.

Following its Nutcracker run in December, the company will premiere Ben Stevenson's spine-tingling Dracula in February. The spooky ballet features awe-inspiring theatrics, stunning sets and exquisite dancing to delight young and old alike. Dracula is followed by Dreamland, a program of three ballets performed in April at the Newmark Theatre, which includes two OBT premieres. June will have two shows, The Americans - Take Two, and the annual production On Stage featuring the talented students of OBT School.

The Oregon Ballet Theatre's priority is the health and safety of its patrons, dancers and staff. Visit obt.org to read about vaccination requirements and exchange and refund policies. Purchase tickets, get directions to the Newmark Theatre and Keller Auditorium and see which performances will feature a live orchestra.
