The Grotto is celebrating the return of The Christmas Festival of Lights. Since 1988, The Grotto has presented the sights and sounds of Christmas to the families of the Portland Metro area.
Jane Tokito, the Director of Marketing and Events, said, "We missed being open last year and are excited to meet with the community again."
The festival features two million lights, caroling and nightly indoor concerts that feature local school, church and civic choirs.
One of the most popular events is an outdoor puppet show which tells the Nativity story from the point of view of the stable animals. Happening at the top of every hour, "the interactive puppet show is great for kids," says Tokito, "and The Grotto Gift Shop is a great place for holiday shopping."
Tokito wants everyone to know that although it is different this year, the Festival Lights is open and waiting for you. "Tickets are still available at the door, though the price is discounted when you buy them in advance online." Tokito encourages visitors to review the COVID-19 protocol on
The Grotto's website thegrotto.org has the schedule and information on how to purchase tickets as there are nightly capacity limits.
After tumultuous times experienced by all of us during the pandemic, "People are ready to come together to celebrate," according to Tokito. "The Grotto is honored to be part of your holiday celebration."
