It's Wednesday, April 24, International Guide Dog Day. Happy birthday to TV funnyman Cedric The Entertainer (1964), born Cedric A. Kyles in Jefferson City, Missouri. Today in 1800, President John Adams signed legislation establishing the Library of Congress with a $5,000 budget to buy books. Two years later, the library had about 964 volumes and maps. Twelve years later, an invading British Army burned the library and it's 3,000 volumes. Expect a mostly sunny day with a northwest breeze and a high in the upper 60s. Here are a few things to do after you honor working dogs today:

• Have something to eat and raise money at PDX Global Eats, 6 p.m., Lagunitas Community Road, 237 N.E. Broadway. www.facebook.com/events/2419727001647296/

• Add a little color to your evening at the Garden Home Community Library's Art Night: Draw your own coloring pages, 6 to 8 p.m., at the library annex, 7306 S.W. Oleson Road. www.Gardenhomelibrary.org

• Learn about the poisonous world at OMSI After Dark, 6 to 10 p.m., 1945 S.E. Water Ave. 21 and older. Cost: $15 to $36 (if you want to see some of the exhibits). omsi.edu/calendar/omsi-after-dark-poisonous-world
