There is an outbreak of COVID-19 at Hope Village's Post-Acute Rehab facility in Canby. As of Sunday, June 7, a total of 34 people had tested positive for the disease.
The rehab facility is part of the larger Hope Village Assisted Living, owned by Marquis. Since the outbreak, the rehab facility has been isolated from the assisted living portion of the facility to prevent further spread, according to a letter from April Diaz, Marquis Companies vice president of clinical services.
"Being a part of a large connected campus, our focus is not only the clinical monitoring or the needs and comfort of our residents within our Hope Village Post-Acute Rehab facility, but also protecting our residents at Hope Village Assisted Living," Diaz said.
It started Friday, June 5, when two staff members and five residents at the rehab facility tested positive for COVID-19.
Staff, in coordination with Clackamas County Health, immediately began the process of testing 100% of the facility's residents and contact tracing.
By Saturday, June 6, two staff members and 16 residents had tested positive.
Then as of Sunday, June 7, a total of three staff members and 31 residents had tested positive for COVID-19.
All staff at the rehab facility were tested today, Monday, June 8, to identify any asymptomatic staff members as part of the contact tracing process. Results should be available within 24-72 hours, according to Heather Villanueva, spokesperson for Marquis.
As of now, there are no known cases in the assisted living section of the campus, Villanueva said, but all staff and residents will be tested within the week. In the meantime, the organization has increased monitoring of assisted living residents for any indicators of COVID-19.
There is now dedicated staff working with those who tested positive at the rehab facility, and all staff members are wearing N-95 masks at all times when caring for all residents.
Diaz said that at this time, most of the rehab facility residents who tested positive show mild to moderate symptoms or none at all. Knowing that symptoms can change quickly over the course of a few hours, however, staff members are focused on assessment of the potential change of conditions as well as the intervention and medical support to provide comfort for those residents.
"Our entire organization is dedicated to doing everything we can to contain the virus and protect our residents, staff and community," Diaz said.
The Hope Village campus has a total of 146 staff members and 112 residents. There are 46 staff members and 74 residents at the assisted living site and 100 staff members and 38 residents at the rehab facility.
