Republican Party needs serious reformation, or dissolution
Recently defeated state treasurer candidate Jeff Gudman gave us a nice history of the Republican Party. He cited land-grant colleges, the trans-continental railroad, and more recently, the interstate highway system that Eisenhower generally gets kudos for.
Something has changed in the last 40 or so years. Now we can credit the GOP for trickle-down economics, significant tax cuts for the rich and an unnecessary war in Iraq.
I suggest more is needed for Republican repair efforts than a bit of polish. What was it Sarah Palin said about lipstick on a pig? Perhaps the impeachment trial of Donald Trump over a riot at our Capitol will lead to serious reformation of the Republican Party.
If not reformation, dissolution may be necessary. It was the demise of the Whigs in the 1850s that gave rise to the party of Lincoln.
