Rockwood Village opens July 19, the first Metro Housing Bond local share funded development to open in Gresham.

EDDY MORALESThanks to unprecedented collaboration and innovation, we were able to do something here in Gresham that has stymied other cities, and that even some of our residents thought was impossible: we built community through bottom-up collaboration on housing. And by doing so, we are increasing our city's housing supply, opportunities, safety, and security.

This week we will mark a major milestone in creating a stronger Gresham as we officially open Rockwood Village.

Rockwood Village has 224 units of beautiful market rate and affordable housing, sized from one to four bedrooms to accommodate the needs of a range of our residents, including younger residents just starting out, families with children, and seniors. I am especially proud that we have been able to build four bedroom units for working families— units like these have been challenging to develop in other cities.

Gresham residents provided crucial input to Rockwood Village's development. Together, we designed it to foster neighborly connections. It features greenspaces and pedestrian and bike paths that connect to other transportation corridors.

Its community center hosts economic opportunity and entrepreneurship programs, including ones designed by partners like Hacienda CDC to help tenants become homeowners through matching Individual Development Accounts (IDA) and homeownership support programs. The Rockwood Village community center also provides a nurturing environment for kids, including out-of-school activities and early childhood education. And we built it in just two years from start to finish.

None of this would have been possible without collaborative engagement between the City, Gresham residents, and strong private and public sector partnerships.

Thank you to the citizens who helped with the design process, and to Hacienda CDC, Waechter Architecture, LMC Construction, Key Bank, Freddie Mac, and all the development partners who made the dream of high-quality affordable housing in Rockwood a reality.

Across the city, you will notice the development of diverse housing options, from first-time rental to first-time homeownership. We have also made unprecedented investments in helping people access housing and remain in their homes.

And we have consolidated a full list of housing support resources at

People across Gresham are demanding an urgent response to the lack of affordable housing that has driven homelessness to crisis levels. Rockwood Village and our consolidated housing website are big first steps in the right direction.

Gresham is growing. We expect over 6,000 new families to join us in the next decade. Rockwood Village is a great start. Now, let's do it again.
