Planned Parenthood PAC: Elect leaders like Mark Meek who are unapologetic supporters of reproductive freedom.

As we mark three months since the Supreme Court eliminated the federal constitutional right to abortion, Planned Parenthood PAC of Oregon is mobilizing voters who want to elect leaders who are unapologetic supporters of reproductive freedom.

We believe no one is free unless they control their bodies, lives and futures. That is why we're doing everything in our power to ensure that voters understand the importance of the midterms and elect champions for sexual and reproductive health at every level of government, including Tina Kotek for governor as well as legislative and congressional races right here in Clackamas County.

Since the fall of Roe v. Wade, 17 states have enforced abortion bans, including our neighboring state of Idaho, meaning that 1 in 3 American women of reproductive age have lost the right to control their own bodies. And with the recent introduction of a national abortion ban in Congress, it's more critical than ever that voters turn out to elect candidates who will protect their rights at both the state and federal levels. For this election, abortion is on the ballot in every single state. Voters must know which candidates will defend their reproductive freedom and which hold views that do not align with the values of the vast majority of Oregonians.

Anti-abortion Republicans are running for seats at all levels of government. Voters need look no further than these candidates' legislative records to understand what is at stake. For more than 30 years, Sen. Bill Kennemer has been endorsed by and is working hand-in-hand with well-funded, extremist organizations like Oregon Right To Life whose singular goal is to ban abortion in Oregon.

Kennemer has a long record of voting against Oregonians' right to decide whether and when to become parents. He has opposed abortion access for low-income Oregonians; he has opposed requiring insurance coverage for reproductive health care; and he has opposed protections to help patients keep their reproductive health care choices private.

The choice for Oregon voters is clear: Do we want politicians like Bill Kennemer to have the power to control our bodies and criminalize healthcare providers? Or do we want a tried-and-true leader like Mark Meek, who trusts us to make our own decisions about our health, lives and families?

As a state representative, Meek took bold action when Donald Trump made it clear that he was going to overturn Roe. Meek voted for the Reproductive Health Equity Act, which not only safeguards abortion rights in Oregon, but also expands access to essential, lifesaving care for thousands of patients who had been denied insurance coverage.

Make no mistake: Reproductive rights are top-of-mind as voters head to the ballot box, and attacks on our freedoms will cost anti-abortion politicians on Election Day. From Kansas's constitutional amendment to New York's special election, voters across the country are showing that they are energized and motivated to protect abortion rights.

Oregonians want and deserve access to safe, legal abortion — and uncompromising leaders who are bold enough to fight for their rights. From now until Election Day, grassroots supporters are rallying voters to take control at the ballot box and turn out in record numbers to elect leaders who will protect our health and rights.
