To the nth degree

Portland’s Power of County combine bluegrass, Americana and country, and definitely seem to be culled from the same world that spawned bands like the New Riders of the Purple Sage and the Raunch Hands.

They’re releasing a new album at this party and if the samples online are any indication, it’s a thoughtful redneck’s revel. Opening tune “Native” notes the singer is white and just can’t help it and the record gets better from there. This is one fun band. If you’re looking to discover why Pabst Blue Ribbons were created by God in the first place, give this group a listen.

Power of County, Bison Bison, Trask River Redemption, 9 p.m. Friday, July 5, Dante’s, 350 W. Burnside St. $5. Info: 503-345-7892,

Chamber of hellos

From what we can tell, Portland’s Coma Serfs specialize in garage-meets-psychedelia rock ‘n’ roll, sort of realizing the full potential of all the sonic ideas inherent in “I’m Not Your Steppin’ Stone.” With appropriate placed screams, tres cool guitar lines, both rhythm and lead, and the requisite hard-driving drums and bass, this band is sure to unsettle souls at the Angry Orchard Hard Cider Tasting Party.

Coma Serfs, 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, Slabtown, 1033 N.W. 16th Ave. Free. Info: 971-229-1455,
