Montavilla Monthly - Having Fun with Pottery
Pottery Fun, the name says it all. Well, maybe not everything. Theyd need a longer name to encompass all the possibilities; crafting with your kids, DIY date night, holiday ornaments and gift making, and glass plate art would be a good start. But, fun would always remain.
Since 2010, Pottery Fun has been adding to the family-fun draw of Montavilla. The owner, Mark Moore, chose this area to open his business to serve the high density of young families. Pottery Fun is just a skip across the street from the Academy Theater and surrounded by enough shopping and eating options to make your head spin. While people come from all over including Vancouver on the occasional school holiday, most of Moores customers are families and couples from the surrounding neighborhoods.
Some patrons stop by for a birthday party (ages 2+ recommend) or others for a hand-made anniversary gift. Many of the regulars bring their kids, but Mark knows how to have some after-hours fun as well. Every second Friday of the month is Margarita Night, an adult swim night where one can get their craft on with the help of a little happy hour buzz.
We get a lot of date night couples that either just ate or are about to go to a movie, explains Mark. Many of them rotate between the local attractions; movie and dinner one night, shopping and Pottery Fun the next. Were glad they always stop by to say hello.
Painting, coating, and baking your art pieces might sound complicated. Some people are intimidated by the process. But, we help you get started and we can walk you through it step by step, Moore assures. Dont let the process scare you, Mark knows what hes doing.
Also, dont let the black hole of despair known as Portland weather stop you from venturing out to Montavilla this holiday season. Visit Pottery Fun and a host of other businesses for Four Frosty Fridays every Friday, from 6-9 p.m., between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Make your own ornaments, craft colorful glass plates, bring the kids, or surprise that special someone; whatever you do, have some Pottery Fun.
