The project to make a tribute CD to late country crooner George Jones has been completed by Portland-based label Deer Lodge Records. It’s called “Deer Lodge: A Tribute to George Jones,” and it’s a two-CD compilation of 30 tracks, with artists from the West Coast playing homage to “The Possum.”

The list of artists include Sassparilla, Fernando, Water Tower, Drunken Prayer, Lewi Longmire and Portland Country Underground, Hearts of Oak, and Meredith Brothers. The songs include “White Lightning” by Sassparilla, “She Thinks I Still Care” (The Wellspring), “He Stopped Loving Her Today” (Stephanie Lynn), “Tennessee Whiskey” (Brush Prairie), “Who’s Gonna Fill Their Shoes” (W.C. Beck), “Golden Ring” (Neon Renaissance) and “Wings of a Dove” (Fernando).

Growlers Hawthorne

Tabbed as the city’s first dedicated growler filling station, it opened Tuesday, Feb. 4, at 3343 S.E. Hawthorne Blvd. Growlers, to the uninitiated, are big bottles that you can have filled with beer. There will be 48 beers on tap to choose from.

The Nowhere Band

You may have noticed the Portland Tribune’s coverage of the 50th anniversary of The Beatles arriving in North America last week.

Well, The Nowhwere Band, a Beatles tribute outfit based in Portland, will commemorate the 50th anniversary of Beatlemania by playing a gig at the Alberta Rose Theatre on the 50th anniversary of the Fab Four’s epic appearance on “The Ed Sullivan Show.”

Nu Shooz on road

The Portland band has plans to go on the road again with Freestyle Explosion Tour pals LisaLisa, Expose’, Stacey Q, Pretty Poison and many more fellow 1980s hot musical acts.

Nu Shooz also plans to play a Portland gig with their entire crew for the first time since 1989.

The Pacific Pug Rescue plans its fifth annual fundraiser “Pugentines,” 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at Splendorporium, 3421 S.E. 21st Ave. The activities will include a Valentine’s Day-themed pug fashion show and costume contest. There’s a $5 donation at the door.
