Beauty, wellness industry seeking donations of PPE for OHSU
Portland-based ZibaHub, a career platform for beauty and wellness professionals, has partnered with Pie PDX to help source protective gear from beauty and wellness professionals to be used by frontline medical staff at OHSU in response to the rising need promoted by COVID-19 novel coronavirus.
Mandana Salehi-Stewart, founder of ZibaHub, is asking for donations of sealed packages of non-latex exam gloves, masks, face shields, sanitizing wipes and hand sanitizer to be delivered to OHSU Center for Health and Healing, Building 1 Loading Dock, 3303 SW Bond Ave., in Portland between March 24 and 5 p.m. April 3.
"We know folks who have gloves, masks, disinfecting wipses and hand sanitizer, sitting in storage, collecting dust," said Salehi-Stewart in a press release. "The folks who have these supplies are 90% women, mostly self-employed, and with an average annual income of $25,000. They are in financial peril under mandatory closures of their businesses. They can help save us and we can reward them for their help. Your hairstylist, nail artist, barber, esthetician, LMT and tatto artist could be the key to sourcing the critical supplies our frontline medical workers need to fight the COVID-19 epidemic. But is it fair to ask them to offload their supplies without knowing when they can return to work and when they will be able to replenish them without some sort of compensation? Join @realZibaHub and @PiePDX in supporting medical workers as they fight the coronavirus pandemic while rewarding beauty professionals for donating these much needed supplies with a chance to win $1,000."
To encourage participation, Salehi-Stewart says ZibaHub and Pie PDX have already donated $1,000 each. Each box or package equals one entry in the drawing (maximum 25 entries per person). Donors bring their donations to the loading dock, then post a selfie at OHSU with the donated supplies to Instagram and tag @ZibaHub in the photo using #ZibaHubCovid19.
"Tell us how many boxes of supplies you donated," she said. "Each box or package earns one entry in to our drawing for a chance to win a $1,000 cash prize on April 3, 2020 at 5 p.m.
At least two winners are guaranteed with the donations made by ZibaHub and Pie PDX.
"We are asking the community and our fellow technology companies to donate to this cause," Salehi-Stewart said. "For every additional $1,000 we raise we will add one more winner to the random drawing. Ouru goal is to raise a minimum of $10,000 to reward a total of ten winners."
