Bits & Pieces: Oaks Amusement Park plans reopening
Oaks Amusement Park
Make plans to visit Oaks Amusement Park when it reopens Saturday, April 17. Rides, miniature golf and midway games will be open for the 2021 season; a highlight will be the new AtmosFEAR ride.
Hours are noon-7 p.m. Saturdays-Sundays in April, the same times Fridays-Sundays in May and daily in the summer.
There will be some ride restrictions and tickets must be purchased in advance.
AtmosFEAR replaces the Scream'n Eagle.
Oaks Park is hiring more than 200 positions.

Rose Garden Contest
The Royal Rosarians have opened up the 83rd annual Rose Garden Contest for area growers with categories in informal rose plantings, miniature rose plantings, commercial rose gardens and plantings, and formal rose gardens.
Applications must be postmarked or emailed by May 28. There'll be on-site judging June 6, visual judging June 7 and an awards ceremony June 21 at the International Rose Test Garden at Washington Park. For more: www.royalrosarians.com.
Pearl Dive Project
BodyVox dance company will present a limited streaming series of its Pearl Dive Project, featuring distance collaborations with non-dance creative people via Zoom, starting Thursday, April 15. There'll be five episodes, each dedicated to one of the creative collaborators, encompassing the creation process, interview with the artist and the final dance. The collaborators: musician Ludovico Einaudi, photographer/author Lois Greenfield, "Simpsons" cartoonist Matt Groening, writer Yiyun Li, drag queen Poison Waters. For more: www.bodyvox.com.
Famed novelist John Grisham will appear in a virtual event at 5 p.m. April 28 in conversation with thriller author J.T. Ellison, courtesy of Powell's Books. It's a ticketed event; a purchase of Grisham's latest book, "Sooley," entitles attendance at the web event. For more: www.powells.com.
While Portland venues still face government restrictions, Fuller Events has set up outdoor events at Zidell Yards, 3030 S. Moody Ave. in South Waterfront — live music, dance, art, fundraisers, outdoor movies, storytelling, inspiration and more.
