Portland real estate broker named 'Bachelorette' contestant
The next season of the ABC dating game show "The Bachelorette" will include more local talent.
The show announced this week that Portland resident Marcus Lathan will be joining the cast for season 17 of the show, in which several contestants date a single woman, hoping to find true love.
According to social media, Lathan is a real estate broker with Camas, Washington-based Brantley Christianson Real Estate. He joins 29 other male contestants hoping to win the affections of new Bachelorette Katie Thurston, a Washington native who competed on last year's season of "The Bachelor."
According to promotional materials from ABC, Lathan "is a sweet guy with a calming presence about him. He has built a very successful professional life investing in properties, but now he is ready to shift his focus and invest in himself."
ABC said Lathan is looking for someone "who is smart, ambitious and tidy! He cannot be with someone who is happy sitting on their laurels all day long, and he dreams of finding a partner who brings excitement and adventure to his world."
He's a fan of board games (Monopoly is his favorite, according to ABC), the Los Angeles Lakers, listening to music and exploring Portland's culinary scene.
"When describing himself as a lover, Marcus says he is 'amazing,'" ABC said. "There's no doubt that Marcus is ready for love and marriage, and we hope his confidence is enough to win Katie's heart!"
Lathan is the latest in a string of Oregonians to compete on the long-running series. Last season, 25-year-old Abigail Heringer, of Beaverton, and Happy Valley resident Pieper James, 23, appeared on the show. Both were eliminated.
The new season of "The Bachelorette" begins June 7 on ABC.
