After three years, city is excited for the return of the Old Time Fair July 15-17.

PMG FILE PHOTO - We Gotta Regatta will take place at the Bernert Landing Boat Dock Saturday, July 16, during the Old Time Fair. There are many things to love about the West Linn Old Time Fair: the games and rides, the classic car show, the waterski spectacular, the parade, the delicious pies and famous Lion Burgers. But the thing that many people are excited for this year is the chance to see one another again.

After it was canceled in 2020 and 2021 because of the pandemic, the Old Time Fair, West Linn's most popular event, returns to Willamette Park July 15-17.

Larry McIntyre, the long-serving emcee of the Old Time Fair Ambassador Coronation ceremony, called this year's fair a regathering.

"It's going to be bringing the community back together again, which we've not been able to do for the last couple of years," McIntyre said.

Mike Watters, a West Linn Lions Club member who has volunteered at the fair for many years and served as the parade's grand marshal in 2011, expressed a similar fondness for the unique sense of community that comes with the fair.

"(It's great) being able to be in a single spot and say hello to a lot of friends and people from West Linn," Watters said. "It's a good magnet for past friends and family."

In addition to the fair's traditional elements, recreation coordinator Dawn Kolb was excited about several new features like a rock climbing wall, a zipline and a bouncy obstacle course.

Kolb mentioned another event new to the fair this year: the antique and classic boat show, which will take place from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, July 17, at the Bernert Landing boat dock.

Of course, the classic car show has long been a beloved aspect of the fair and will take place 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 16, with awards presented at 2 p.m.

The theme for this year's parade is "Past, Present and Future" in honor of the 100-year anniversary of the West Linn-Oregon City Arch Bridge. The West Linn High School robotics team will serve as grand marshals for the parade, which starts at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 16.

Kolb also mentioned excitement for the We Gotta Regatta, a recycled boat race that began in 2017. The race is a test not only of endurance and paddle skills, but also ingenuity, as teams are tasked with building their own rafts out of recycled plastic bottles.
