Angel Olsen treads on your heart as female singer-songwriters unite in yearning.

To bring to life your Summer Sad Girl Starter Pack you can't do much better than the Wild Hearts Tour: a three-way gig on Tuesday, Aug. 2 at McMenamin's Edgefield with singer-songwriters Sharon Van Etten, Angel Olsen and Julien Baker, plus special guest for this date, Quinn Christopherson.

Just to focus on one of these indie-folk acts, consider Angel Olsen. Her latest album, "Big Time," (Jagjaguwar) contained the singles, "All The Good Times" and "Big Time" and "Through The Fires," and was written when Olsen was coming out as queer. It has enough coming-of-age and love, happiness and heartbreak to reach all people. Bring your blankets and Kleenex: Olsen's parents died shortly after she came out to them.

Her slow, almost dreary version of Umberto Tozzi/Laura Branigan's "Gloria" turns it upside-down. Unlike "All Mirrors," Olsen's previous record, "Big Time" is languid and simple, with her voice and words carrying most of the freight. This singer can be Chrissie Hynde and Julee Cruise at once.

Olsen is known for her sumptuous videos such as {obj:64587:"Through the Fires"} shot by Angela Ricciardi, and she worked with director Kimberly Stuckwisch to release a 28-minute film on June 2 on Amazon Music called 'Big Time'. That's where she's headed.
