MONDAY, AUG. 8

'The Fever — Lloyd Center has started hosting plays, and the next will be "The Fever" by Northwest Classical Theater Collaborative.

And, then it goes to homes, a bookstore and prisons.

The Wallace Shawn play stages at Lloyd Center Friday Aug. 12 to Sept. 9. Then, it'll go to private residences and businesses, including the home of Portland Creative Laureate Joaquin Lopez (who shares Creative Laureate title with Leila Haile) and Mother Foucault's Bookshop, 523 S.E. Morrison St.

Organizers will also be staging the play at Columbia River Correctional Institution and Oregon State Penitentiary at later dates.

For more: www.nwctc.org. Tickets are limited for the Lloyd Center shows.

It's Northwest Classical Theater Collaborative's first live, in-person show in more than two years. Paul Susi plays the lone character in the play. It's directed by Patrick Walsh.

The play is about a man, suffering from a fever, stuck in a poverty-stricken country, where he observes political persecution just outside his hotel window.

From NWCTC:

"Through the course of this blistering monologue, our lone narrator wrestles with his own privilege as he observes the suffering and poverty of others. With compassion, eloquence, and ruthless self-scrutiny, the narrator becomes aware of the systems that operate the world and his own complicity within them. Are good intentions enough in a world like ours?"

Shawn, of course, gave us the very memorable performance of Vizzini in "The Princess Bride."

Souza coming — Pete Souza made a lot of cool photographs as White House photographer during the Obama administration: 25,000 hours in the White House and nearly two million photos.

The result is the photo book "The West Wing and Beyond: What I Saw Inside the Presidency," which takes you behind the scenes of consequential moments and with people, places and traditions.

He returns to Portland, courtesy of Powell's Books, for an author's appearance, 7:30 p.m. Oct. 18 at Revolution Hall.
