From 3 to 10 p.m., the new festival for the cultural nonprofit will offer beer tastings alongside Viking reenactments — including combat — as well as live music, games, Nordic food, a Viking ship and more.

"My goal is to reinvent what a beer fest is," said event manager Shawn MacArthur. "With this unique festival, we're pairing Viking reenactors with music, performances, activities and more. Costumes are encouraged."COURTESY PHOTO: NORDIC NORTHWEST - Viking reenactments plus food, music, beer and more will be at Nordic Northwest's new Viking Beer Festival on Saturday, Aug. 20.

The festival will feature the Timberhaven Vikings, a local chapter of a national history and reenactment organization. The Vikings will sell their own merchandise.

Other vendors include Nordic Northwest, Ravenwolf Creations and Hearthfire Nordic Wares.

Visitors are welcome to take photos in front of Nordic Northwest's 20-foot Viking ship replica — before it becomes a stage later in the evening — and walk around Fogelbo during the festival.

Fogelbo, a log house and surrounding grounds resembling a Swedish Village, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2020.

The festival is located on the "spectacularly beautiful" Fogelbo grounds, MacArthur said, and live music will be played from the log house deck.COURTESY PHOTO: NORDIC NORTHWEST - A 20-foot Viking ship replica will be available for photos and used as a stage during Nordic Northwest's first-ever Viking Beer Festival Aug. 20.

Tickets for the festival are available online. Nordic Northwest encourages people to get tickets soon, since the event will probably sell out.

The Viking Beer Festival is only for adults age 21 and older.

The tickets, currently around $40, also include 10 4-ounce pours and souvenir glassware.

More tastings of various Pacific Northwest beers will be available for purchase, along with flights, glasses, bottles and mead horns.

Attendees are encouraged to get an Uber, Lyft or use public transportation to get to the Viking beer Festival. TriMet line 45 (Garden Home) stops in front of the venue.

Limited parking is available on-site at Nordic Northwest, located at 8800 S.W. Oleson Road in Garden Home.
