Sounders sign Chad Barrett

Portland Thorns FC, barring more trades, will pick 11th and 16th overall — both in the second round — when they jump into the National Women's Soccer League college draft on Friday, Jan. 17.

The draft begins at 7 a.m. PT, with the Washington Spirit and Houston Dash picking 1-2, in that order. The Chicago Red Stars have the Nos. 3 and 4 picks. FC Kansas City is in the fifth spot, followed by Sky Blue FC, Seattle Reign FC (via the Thorns), Boston and Western New York to close out the first of four rounds.

• Seattle Sounders FC have signed forward Chad Barrett, 28, a former star at Southridge High.

The nine-year MLS veteran scored two goals and had two assists in 19 games with New England in 2013.
