Oregon State's Angus Brandt raises his arms in front of a group of Beavers fans after OSU beat the Oregon Ducks 80-72 Sunday night at Gill Coliseum. It may have been an ugly game, but it looked fine to the Oregon State Beavers.

Despite 20 turnovers, the Beavers controlled Sunday's Civil War showdown with visiting Oregon and won 80-72 at Gill Coliseum in Corvallis.

The Ducks, caught at the right time by OSU, managed only six assists and shot just 38 percent from the field in losing their fourth in a row — after opening the season 13-0.

Roberto Nelson led the way for the Beavers with 22 points, and Eric Moreland — who had missed the first 12 games of the season while on suspension — gave Oregon State an inside force with 15 points, 13 rebounds, five assists and three blocks.

The Ducks never got closer than five points — 71-66 with 2:09 left — down the stretch.

Oregon State leads the all-time series 185-155, with a 100-62 edge at home.

The second and final regular-season meeting is noon Sunday, Feb. 16 at Oregon.
