The Seattle Thunderbirds held the Portland Winterhawks to a second-period goal by Skyler McKenzie and won 3-1 Friday night in Kent, Washington.

The T-Birds scored took a 2-0 lead late in the first period with goals at 16:06 and 18:34.

McKenzie’s team-leading eighth goal of the season, a one-timer on a power play and with assists from Joachim Blichfeld and Caleb Jones, pulled Portland to within 2-1. It was the Hawks’ 19th goal this season with the man advantage.

Seattle’s final strike came with one minute left in the game before 3,634 at ShoWare Center.

Hawks goalie Cole Kehler made 25 saves. For Seattle, Rylan Toth had 32 stops.

The Winterhawks fell to 8-5-0-0, while the Thunderbirds improved to 3-4-0-1.
