Silvertips slip past Winterhawks
Everett breaks 2-2 tie down the stretch to win 4-2 on home ice
The Portland Winterhawks went into a nine-day holiday break with a 4-2 loss at Everett on Saturday night.
The Silvertips, who are battling Prince George for the top record in the Western Hockey League, improved to 24-4-5-0 (53 points).
Portland is 19-16-1-0 (39).
Portland got on the board first. Cody Glass scored at 2:53 of the second period off a feed from Keegan Iverson.
Eetu Tuulola of Everett tied the score with 32 seconds left in the frame.
The Silvertips took a 2-1 lead at the 12:22 mark of the third period, with Matt Fonteyne scoring.
Portland came right back at 16:39, as Glass scored again, his 19th goal of the season, to tie the score at 2-2.
Everett scored 31 seconds later, though, and a shot that bounced in off the Silvertips' Devon Skoleski.
The 'Tips added an empty-net score at 18:12 by Connor Dewar.
Cole Kehler made 41 saves for Portland.
The Hawks were 0 for 1, Everett 0 for 4 on power plays.
