WEDNESDAY SPORTS NEWS/In Redmond, North Idaho coach fires a 7-under-par 65 to extend his Oregon Open Invitational lead to four shots

With one round to go in the Oregon Open Invitational, North Idaho men's golf coach Russell Grove has a four-stroke lead.

Grove, a pro from Couer d'Alene, Idaho, shot a 7-under-par 65 at Juniper Golf Course in Redmond in Wednesday's second round.

The first-round leader's 36-hole total of 12-under 132 gives him a cushion over second-place Derek Berg, the 2010 champion.

Berg, a pro from Sahalee Country Club, fired a 66 on Wednesday.

Reid Hatley, an amateur out of Hayden Lake Country Club, is alone in third at 140 after a second-day 69.

The final 18 holes will be played Thursday.

The tournament's four-ball competition ended Wednesday, with Grove and amateur Ross Gilbert of Emerald Valley on top. They shot 66-63—129 and edged Shane Prante and amateur Travis Paul by one swing.

Tied for third at 131 was the team of Ryan Malby (Iron Horse) and Jason Strobbe (Oregon Golf Club).
